No, that’s not an ink blot. It’s a graph of a Friendster network which was built from the results of a robot crawling that network. I’d love to make one of these for my network(the code is provided). Being able to see the big picture is one of the things that’s sorely lacking from Friendster. That should be a basic feature, like it is in the ‘affinity engine‘ in use by my university.

Pretty neat. It also demonstrates the principal that some people really are connectors and facilitators who connect other people to each other. Look at some of those clusters around a single friend. Impressive.
The vast majority of my ‘friends’ are through a handful of people, so I think my graph would look a lot like the one pictured. There are 2 guys in particular that would basically have a big black blob around them
