SlamBall is the Sh*t!

SlamBall home page

I just saw SlamBall for the first time and I’m hooked. I can’t believe I slept on the entire first season though. I remember seeing promos for it and thinking ‘eh, so what if these guys can dunk using trampolines…’. Silly me. Here’s a description of the game:

Take basketball. Then mix it with football, hockey, lacrosse, gymnastics and — oh yeah — a few trampolines. What would you get? If you said, “a lot of fractures,” you’d be right. But the answer we’re looking for is SlamBall — the all-action human video game where two teams defy gravity and hospitalization in their pursuit of victory. It’s fast. It’s furious. And it’s not very femur-friendly.

If you like basketball and either football or hockey you’ll probably love SlamBall. It’s basically full-contact basketball that centers around dunking. (Dunks are worth 3 points while jumpers are worth 2.) They even got rid of the 3-point line this season to encourage more action at the rim. And there is indeed some serious action at the rim. In the game I saw one team’s stopper (basically a goalie), who was 6′ 6″, 235 lbs, was crushing everything that came his way. You know how b-ballers like to say ‘get that ish outta here’ after blocking a shot? Well in SlamBall the words are not necessary… the physical punishment says it all.

If you haven’t seen SlamBall, it comes on SpikeTV 3 times per week (Unfortunately they show the same game all 3 times). There’s also lots of good info at the SlamBall fansite.
