I just passed 10,000 hits (actually visits… hits are a bit higher) on this blog. I’m surprised that it reached that level so fast because my other blog, Trader Mike, is almost 3 months older but only has 5,600 hits so far. I wish I could say this blog has taken off because of my great writing and interesting topics, but I can’t. The vast majority of hits have come from people searching for nude pictures of the rapper Eve. I posted about that scandal when the news broke almost a month ago, but I still get well over 100 hits a day on that post — and it doesn’t even contain the picture. That’ll teach me to ever post about nude pictures again. (oops, I just did)
My second most popular post is my post about MTV’s 22 Greatest MCs. I had to close the comments on that post because every time MTV airs the show I get another flood of ignorant posts, mainly from Tupac fans. They whine & cry about the fact that I don’t think Pac was the greatest, even though I love his music and ranked him pretty high. Discussing the Tupac fans could be a whole article in and of itself. I deleted most of the dumb ass comments on my site, but to see what I mean, take a look at the comments on my 22 greatest MCs post at BlogCritics. Dare I do a post about what I think of their truly fanatical adoration of Tupac??? Yeah, I will.
Anyway, I wonder how long it will take me to get to 20,000 hits.
Congrats, now you are a big time blogger. I’ll catch up to you in a couple of months.
i keep hitting refresh.
disregard my prior comment. refreshing doesn’t affect the number of visitors.
Tony,
I still don’t give much weight to hits from search engines. Clearly I could just post about nude pictures and get tons of hits. I’d rather see more links to me in Technorati.
Charles,
Yeah, I noticed. 🙂 Sitemeter counts all the hits from the same IP/OS/Browser within 20 minutes as one visit. So if you wait 21 minutes and then hit refresh you’ll be counted again.
I follow your thinking. But bloggers use search engines too. So there is some increased percentage that the more people that come visit your site, the more likely candidates for linkage.
Keep those hits coming. Gotta have those hits!!!
